MMAUFCNEWS explains:
WEC featherweight contender Rafael Assuncao (13-1 MMA, 1-0 WEC) will look to build on his successful debut for the organization when he meets newcomer Yves Jabouin (14-4 MMA, 0-0 WEC) at WEC 43.

However, bfowlkes thinks differently:
This week I debated MMA writer/Army officer Kelly Crigger on a number of MMA-related topics (what s that, sounds suspiciously like our Ben vs. Ben feature ? Yeah, tell it to Crigger, *cough* ripoff *cough), but the one where we seemed to differ the most revolved around whether the WEC can now make a successful transition to pay-per-view.  Kelly argues yes, pointing to the excitement provided by the last WEC event and the need to improve fighter pay in Zuffa s little guy organization.  He s right, of course.  They have been putting on good shows lately and Mike Brown does deserve a raise , but it doesn t mean I m personally prepared to give it to him.

Similarly, MMAmania adds:
The sad thing is that, as you just pointed out, there was a strong possibility that Diego might have lost. That s scary.

MMA HQ brings some great news:
Jackson is 4-1 in his last five fights. In that time, Rampage has some impressive victories over top guys like Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, and Dan Henderson. His only loss in that time was to Forrest Griffin.

Ryan Deppa remembers that:
On a sad note, Josh Grispi submitted the legendary Jens Pulver with a guillotine in the first round. A distraught Pulver said after the fight that he may not be able to cut it anymore. He hasn't made any announcements and now that time has passed I think he will fight again. He would fit in perfect as the color commentator for WEC on Versus, but I just get that feeling that he isn't done yet. Grispi even seemed upset that he won.

Still being unsure, John Morgan [kingofabuelos] asks:
White, 39, infuriates some fans, although it is probably just a vocal minority. Most appreciate the product he's delivered. That he's a huge star in his own right, though, rankles some. Strangely, his harshest critics are generally hardcore fans you'd think would appreciate his unquestioned dedication to the sport and ability to take it from back alleys to mainstream.

But Kris Karkoski has a different opinion:
UFC fighters Rousimar Palhares and Thiago Tavares are likely to return in the fall from injuries. [ MMAjunkie ]

Meanwhile, John Shubert came up with this idea:
DREAM News Marius Zaromskis won the welterweight grand prix this past Monday by beating Japanese MMA legend Hayato Sakurai and Jason High, both by head kick. This guy came out of nowhere to win this tournament but by beating two quality opponents in one night, both in devastating fashion, he has to be someone to keep an eye on.

Mike M. comes with the facts:
Maybe to the WEC what do you guys think?? Nothing for sure just thinking about it Fisher is on quite a roll in the UFC, most recently edging out Caol Uno via decision. With the stacked lightweight division, if he is looking for a title, the WEC may not be a bad idea. There is also no shortage of competition there, as Fisher would make for very exciting fights with Cerrone, Varner, Razor Rob, and more.

MMAmania does not seem to agree with this. In his own words:
Comment by RoB 2009-06-21 11:06:06 wait wait wait, he almost beat Diego? hell naw! It wasn t even close, had there been an actual fight scoring it would have been 30-4 or something to Diego he messed him up in every round and he also won each round cause he did more damage and effective striking from the bottom in round 2 only thing Guida was doing well in was the wrestling match

Dedicate also takes into account the following fact:
Shane Carwin has a message for Brock Lesnar Quote: I cannot say I was surprised by anything that night other then Brock s reaction to beating a very tough Frank Mir. Frank is a legend and a great guy who got out powered not out classed. The sponsor issue, you need to talk to your manager not the fans or Dana. The flipping off of the fans that just lined your pocket with millions of dollars is just LAME. He may be a Champion but he has a long ways to go before he earns the respect of a Champion. The fans are why we do this Brock, this sport is not about fat paychecks and drama it is about hard work and sacrifice for a shot to do what you did last night. It doesn t matter how much money you make if you can t earn your peers respect and the respect and love of the greatest sporting fans in the world. We have no scripts in this sport, no pre-determined earning amount and no pre-determined outcomes. It doesn t matter if you win or loose it matters how you win or loose . This is the greatest sport int he world and most of the athletes in it deserve the love and respect they get and some just dont get it. From leaving the venue all the way to the Airport I have had fans of the sport ask me to take out Brock Lesnar for them. The thing is I have a very tough fight ahead of me that IMO is every bit as tough and talented as Brock we are at the top of the HWT division and anyone we fight moving forward is going to be a real test. Cain is nothing short of a super athlete with amazing wrestling and he trains with one of the best camps in the country. I am sure Joe Silva told Cain the same thing he told us, winner gets the title shot. Cain is not looking past me he is looking right at me as the person that is in his way from potentially one of the greatest opportunities of his life and mine. I have said what I have to say about Brock. He will make sure the world knows who he is and what he is all about. I ask that you my fans and the fans of Cain give this fight its due. You would never see two rising undefeated stars put together in Boxing so enjoy this fight. Two warriors with wills to win and the skills to do so are going to show those watching UFC 104 what the future of the sport will look like.

John Morgan [kingofabuelos] gives a bit of an idea about it:
Grappling102 on Jul 03, 2009 at 10:20 am ET "White, 39, infuriates some fans, although it is probably just a vocal minority" Oh boy this is an understatement. Their are plenty of people that can't stand the guy but still like the product that he is putting out. We just wish he would just ask more like an business man once in while and shut  his filthy pie hole and not bash fighters. "Idiotic," he said. "Nobody wants this [expletive] job, believe me" Now this statement is just idiotic. NO ONE WANTS YOUR JOB???? ARE YOU FKING KIDDING ME??? Curran pulled guard but missed the guillotine, Curran then went for a different sub and then a triangle but could not land any of them and Benavidez took side control. What Will Happen: Almeida has a three-year headstart on Grove when it comes to an MMA career, and offshore sportsbook odds have him as a -180 favorite in this contest. He’ll look to take this fight to the ground and smother Grove with his grappling skills, but Grove is no stranger when it comes to going on the mat , and you have to think that training with Penn has even enhanced his skills on the ground. A win would boost him up the middleweight rankings, and while he is six years younger, Grove has had four more fights than Almeida, which will play a role in this MMA betting upset.

Jessie scans the other's answers and reply:
Our main was everything you could want in a title fight. It did go the distance, all 5 championship rounds and is well worth watching. Faber cut Brown early in the 1st and kept him on defense the whole round with sick punches, crazy kicks and furious back elbows. Brown did score a takedown but didn't do anything so I gave the round to Faber. 2nd Brown kept the energetic stoner grounded and did some nice punching from the top, but Faber wiggled as much as he could. It was a fun round, but Brown controlled the majority of it, so 10-9 for him there. 3rd rou nd was kept mostly standing, but Faber couldn't use his hands, obviously hurt them in the 1st, as Ken Flo brilliantly pointed out in commentary. That being said, guy was doing great things with his elbows and avoiding the takedowns, even getting on top of Brown, who had never been taken down in his career. Faber got the better of a close round in my eyes. 4th was the gutcheck round, not a lot happened, fatigue was majorly setting in for both fighters. Faber's hands were really useless and wasn't doing much standing, Brown was finding his rhythm though with punches and landed some doozies. Had to go with Brown there. And 5th and final round the action picked back up as Faber and Brown had several really crazy exchanges on the feet, Faber got the better position at one point on the ground, trying a half-ass choke, but I believe Brown cinched the victory with a solid Matt Huges style bodyslam near the end of the round then riding Faber like a Penny Pony at your local IGA. All in all, had it 48-47 Brown to retain the belt in a stellar main event.

Like Crigger, I d love to see WEC fighters get paid more.  Just not enough to pay them myself.  But maybe that s just me.  Anyone out there willing to shell out a few bucks for regular WEC pay-per-views?  If so, how much would you realistically pay to see the little fella s beat the hell out of each other, and how often?

Title tilts from the IFL and SportFight are featured in this episode. Wagnney Fabiano, Roy Nelson, and Josh Queen are among the champs putting their belts on the line."

But Mike Fagan says that's not all:
"I whooped that ass." - Mercer, summing up the fight beautifully.  Mercer stopped Sylvia by TKO less than ten seconds into the contest.

Kid Nate thinks that the problem is:
I applaud the headline I think this will not be on CBS because Carano is going to be in a situation where she could get mangled. You just can t have that on national TV. We haven t seen too many bloody female MMA fights, but both these woman are gamers. One isn t going to fall down and half-tap give up. There will be blood, especially with Cyborg being an absolute beast. Could national TV handle a bloody cut on Carano especially a cut that dominates the fight for the longer rounds? My hope is this fight ends up being like Griffin and Bonner on the first TUF. This fight needs to set the standard for female MMA. If it does then the female MMA will have arrived.

UFC Japan. Okami bested Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Dean Lister at UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 in Dec. 2008, re-establishing himself as a top contender in the middleweight division. Thunder was the front runner to challenge 185-pound stalwart Anderson Silva for his division title before the Lister match; however, he was sidelined with a hand injury that temporarily derailed his championship aspirations.

bfowlkes is rather skeptical:
deadflag Says: Tue, 06/30/2009 - 09:47 I already don't pay for UFC PPVs. Shit, I don't even own a TV. I either go to any bar that has them on, or, if no bars decide to buy it, I read the play-by-plays and download illegally if it sounds interesting. It's damn near impossible to find a bar that will show a FREE WEC show, so a PPV would be damned near impossible. As a low-class white male in my mid twenties, I probably describe a significant part of the MMA demographic and many in my bracket probably follow the same formula.

admin does not seem to agree with this. In his own words:
Aaron Riley (27-11) Riley is the more experience fighter by far, having battled the likes of Chris and Spencer Fisher in his career. While he’s not a knockout artist, he’s flashed finishing ability in the past and has submitted 11 fighters in his career. However, those betting on UFC 101 odds can’t automatically equate experience and success. It seems that Riley has trouble against more seasoned opponents, as he showed when both Lytle and Fisher knocked him out.

John Morgan [kingofabuelos] remembers that:
Corey, Agree with everything you've said but I think, given Dana's stated growth objectives he has to step away or at least share the reins with others.

While it may be true, Ryan Deppa thinks:

For example, Humungus considers:
June 11, 2009 7:14 PM Humungus said... It s sort of difficult to explain. Sometimes it seems like a fighter feels like they re losing and doesn t think they can do anything about it, but hangs in there in hopes that their opponent will screw up or something miraculous will happen. that s what I saw from Faber. He was discouraged and frustrated, although he certainly didn t quit, but he also didn t seem to change strategy or try to work around the injury aside from throwing slaps and elbows.

However, admin2 states that:
Njokuani had only been defeated once before, at the hands of Donald Cerrone; a man who Henderson will make himself all the more familiar with this September at WEC 43 in Youngstown, Ohio.
